A Complete Transformation – The Patrick Street Kitchen Renovation in Old Town Alexandria

The Patrick Street kitchen renovation in Old Town Alexandria is a brilliant example of how thoughtful design can elevate both style and function. In this project, we combined modern innovations with timeless craftsmanship, using Adelphi Custom Cabinets to create a space that’s both practical and visually stunning. The result is a kitchen that seamlessly blends with the home’s character while providing all the modern conveniences for daily living and entertaining.

Here’s an in-depth look at how the renovation unfolded, with a focus on layout changes, custom cabinetry, and thoughtful design details that reflect the homeowners’ preferences.

Before:

Design Expertise by Kat Reynolds, CKBD

This kitchen renovation was designed by Kat Reynolds, CKBD, a highly creative and experienced designer with over 20 years of expertise in crafting beautiful and functional spaces. Kat starts her design process once the kitchen measurements are complete and after clients have completed a detailed survey and provided 1 to 3 inspiration photos. Her goal is to bring her clients’ dream kitchen to life, tailoring the design to their unique vision while ensuring it complements the available space. For this project, Kat used her expertise to seamlessly blend modern functionality with timeless aesthetics, creating a kitchen that is both practical for everyday use and perfect for entertaining.

The design process typically takes 2 to 4 weeks, but it’s largely dependent on client availability for measurements, completion of the survey, providing inspiration photos, and making decisions on material selections. The more timely these steps are completed, the faster we can finalize your design and move forward with the project.

Client Experience with a Previous Designer

Before working with us, Tony and David were initially collaborating with another designer. However, they quickly became dissatisfied with the process. The design presented didn’t reflect their vision, and they felt that the designer wasn’t truly listening to their needs. Additionally, slow response times and a lack of experience became evident, leaving them frustrated with the progress. It was clear to Tony and David that the designer didn’t share their passion for the project, which is why they decided to make a change and work with our team. From the moment they partnered with Bath Plus Kitchen, they noticed the difference in care, expertise, and attention to detail. This personalized approach allowed us to create a design that perfectly aligned with their goals and expectations, resulting in the kitchen of their dreams.

Precision Measurements by Yuviny Quiej and Eric Shipe

For this renovation, the vital task of taking precise measurements was handled by Yuviny Quiej and Eric Shipe. With over 20 years of experience in project management and 15 years working for Clark Construction, Yuviny brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to every project. Between Yuviny and Eric, they are bound to catch any potential issues and thoroughly think through the layout and design possibilities. In this case, they identified that one of the walls was structural, supporting the floor above. Thanks to their attention to detail, an engineer was brought in to prepare structural drawings to ensure the safe removal of the wall.

Presenting thorough and accurate measurements to Kat Reynolds is key to making her job easier and ensuring a well-thought-out, complete design. Their meticulous work at the start of the project helps avoid costly mistakes, allowing Kat to create a flawless, tailored kitchen that perfectly fits the space and meets the clients’ vision.

Showroom Meeting with Eric Shipe

A critical part of the design process is selecting the right materials and finishes to match the clients’ vision. To make these choices easier and more informed, Eric Shipe met with the clients at our showroom to guide them through selecting their cabinet door style, finishes, hardware, and countertop selections. This hands-on approach ensures that every detail, from the texture of the countertops to the feel of the cabinet hardware, perfectly complements the overall design and meets the client’s expectations.

During the showroom meeting, the clients were able to see, touch, and compare various options, making it easier to visualize how the elements would come together in their final kitchen design. This personalized selection process ensures that each choice enhances the functionality and aesthetics of the space, adding another layer of customization to the kitchen.

---Key Changes in the Layout:

  1. Opening Up the Space:
  • The removal of a dividing wall created an open-concept layout, allowing natural light to flow freely and providing a direct connection between the kitchen, dining, and living areas. This change fulfills the homeowners’ desire for a kitchen that is not only functional but also serves as the heart of the home, perfect for both cooking and socializing.
  • Imagine entering this open, airy kitchen where the lines between cooking, dining, and living spaces blur, creating a cohesive environment perfect for entertaining.
  1. Relocating the Sink:
  • The sink was moved beneath a large window, providing both functionality and a scenic view. This change improves the work triangle between the stove, refrigerator, and sink, making meal prep more efficient and enjoyable.
  • Picture yourself working at the sink, bathed in natural light, with a beautiful view of the outdoors as you go about your daily tasks.
  1. Fridge Relocation & Morning Coffee Station:
  • The refrigerator was relocated to better suit the kitchen’s workflow, while a dedicated morning coffee station was added nearby. This coffee nook, equipped with an espresso machine, offers a practical yet elegant solution to busy mornings, keeping everything neatly organized and within easy reach.
  • Visualize starting your day in this beautifully designed kitchen, where your coffee essentials are conveniently stored in one stylish corner.
  1. Mini Bar & Wine Fridge:
  • The kitchen also features a mini bar area with a wine fridge, perfect for entertaining. Open shelving above adds a decorative touch, displaying decanters and bottles, making this area both functional and visually appealing.
  • Imagine hosting guests in your kitchen, with the convenience of a wine fridge and mini bar, perfectly positioned for easy access during gatherings.
  1. Peninsula Seating:
  • The peninsula serves as both a casual dining area and a workspace. It’s ideal for quick meals, laptop work, or enjoying coffee while staying connected to the kitchen’s activity. The seating arrangement encourages socializing, making it a true hub of the home.

This is where everyday life happens—whether it’s breakfast, homework, or conversations over coffee, the peninsula brings everyone together.

Adelphi Custom Cabinetry – Beautiful and Functional:

The kitchen features Adelphi Custom Cabinets in a flush inset style, which is known for its sleek and timeless appearance. Here’s what makes these cabinets stand out:

  • Cabinet Style: We chose painted white wall cabinets and walnut base cabinets in a Gunstock finish, creating a sophisticated contrast that adds depth and warmth to the kitchen. The door style is Addison, a classic choice that blends seamlessly with both traditional and modern elements of the design.
  • Soft-Close Mechanism: All cabinets feature soft-close doors and drawers, which ensure a quiet and smooth operation. The drawers are also full-extension with dovetail drawer boxes, offering both durability and easy access to all contents.

---Ganged Cabinets for Maximum Space:

One of the most innovative design choices in this renovation was the decision to gang (combine) cabinets together. Inset cabinetry, while offering a clean and flush look, can sometimes reduce usable space due to the seams between cabinets. By ganging cabinets together, we eliminated unnecessary seams, increasing usable space and improving overall aesthetics. This technique was applied in several key areas:

  • Island Cabinets: The two cabinets that make up the island are combined into one seamless unit, maximizing storage and providing a continuous, uninterrupted workspace.
  • Cabinets to the Left of the Range: Two base cabinets were ganged together, offering more usable space without a dividing seam, perfect for storing larger items like pots and pans.
  • Cabinets to the Left of the Dishwasher: These cabinets were also ganged, ensuring that the space under the countertop is fully optimized for storage.
  • Two Island Cabinets: By combining the two island cabinets, we eliminated the need for a seam, creating a more functional space and allowing the cabinetry to flow beautifully within the design.

This attention to detail not only improves storage but also creates a cleaner, more refined look in the kitchen. With fewer seams and more usable space, this cabinetry maximizes both function and aesthetics.

---Cabinet Accessories to Maximize Efficiency:

In addition to the custom cabinetry, the kitchen features several specialized accessories that make everyday tasks more efficient:

  1. Utensil & Knife Block Pull-Out Organizer:
  • Stainless steel utensil bins and full-extension slides keep essential tools organized and within easy reach.
  • Visualize a kitchen where everything has its place, making cooking easier and more enjoyable.
  1. Pot & Pan Storage with LeMans II Swing-Out System:
  • This system maximizes the use of corner cabinets, providing easy access to bulky cookware.
  • No more struggling with deep, hard-to-reach corners; pots and pans are easily accessible.
  1. Drawer Base Cabinet Pull-Out Organizer:
  • Adjustable shelves with soft-close slides ensure that spices and cooking tools are neatly organized and easy to access.
  1. Concealed Trash Solutions:
  • A two-bin system keeps the trash and recycling tucked away but easily accessible, maintaining the kitchen’s clean, minimalist aesthetic.

---Meeting Client Preferences:

  • Accommodating Multiple Cooks: The spacious layout and optimized cabinet design allow for multiple cooks to work together comfortably without crowding the space.
  • Social Hub: The open-concept layout, combined with the versatile seating at the peninsula and the mini bar area, makes the kitchen perfect for both everyday family meals and social gatherings.

Morning Coffee & Wine Storage: The dedicated coffee station and wine fridge areas reflect the homeowners’ desire for a kitchen that caters to their daily routines and entertaining needs.

Plan and Renders:

---Conclusion:

The Patrick Street kitchen renovation is a testament to how thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship can transform a space. With Adelphi Custom Cabinets in flush inset style, combining painted white wall cabinets and walnut base cabinets, the kitchen offers both elegance and efficiency. The decision to gang cabinets together maximizes usable space and creates a seamless, refined look throughout the kitchen. Whether it’s for morning coffee, casual meals, or entertaining, this kitchen is perfectly suited for modern living.

Whether hosting guests or enjoying quiet family meals, this kitchen adapts beautifully to various needs and activities. Its thoughtful design ensures it will be a welcoming hub for years to come.

Transforming Spaces: A Journey Through the Best Kitchen and Bath Renovation Yet

“This was the best puzzle yet,” said Kat Reynolds, CKBD designer, as she embarked on one of our most exciting renovation projects to date. When the Johnson family from Old Town Alexandria, VA, approached us with their vision for a dream kitchen and a serene bathroom, we knew we were in for a rewarding challenge.

Setting the Scene

The Johnsons’ home in the historic Old Town Alexandria had a lot of charm, but their kitchen and bathroom were in desperate need of a makeover. The kitchen, though functional, lacked sufficient storage and felt cramped, especially during their frequent family gatherings. The bathroom, on the other hand, was outdated and too small for their growing needs.

The Kitchen: Heart of the Home

The Johnson family shared their cooking and dining habits with us. Both Mr. and Mrs. Johnson loved to cook together, often preparing elaborate meals from scratch. They also enjoyed hosting informal gatherings where guests mingled in the kitchen while food was being prepared. This space needed to be both highly functional and inviting.

The Design Solution

We proposed a kitchen layout that maximized storage and improved the overall flow of the space. Key elements included:

  • Innovative Storage Solutions: We incorporated a mix of tall cabinets, pull-out drawers, and custom shelving to ensure every inch of the kitchen was utilized efficiently.
  • Appliance Placement: Modern appliances were strategically placed to enhance functionality and ease of use. The sleek Samsung refrigerator and gas cooktop, along with a state-of-the-art LG oven, became focal points of the design.
  • Design Choices: The Johnsons opted for frameless Dura Supreme Cabinets in the Bria line with the Hudson door style in a painted graphite finish. The countertops were chosen to be Cambria quartz in the stunning Portrush design. The floors were luxury vinyl plank from The Tile Shop, in the Prescott XL Fauna design. To complement the graphite cabinets, the cabinet hardware included Top Knobs pulls and knobs in an ash gray finish. Specifically, the Cranford pulls in the 5 1/16″ size and the Brixton Rimmed knobs at 1 1/4″. The result was a space that felt both modern and cozy.

Overcoming Challenges

One of the biggest challenges was fitting their desired large tub into the existing bathroom space. After careful consideration, we decided to swap the tub and shower areas, which provided just enough room to accommodate their preferences without sacrificing comfort or style.

The Bathroom: A Personal Sanctuary

Client’s Vision

Mrs. Johnson had always dreamed of a spacious bathroom with room for a double vanity. She envisioned a serene, modern space where she could relax and unwind after a long day.

Design and Execution

We crafted a detailed floor plan and elevation drawings that included:

  • Spacious Layout: The new design made efficient use of the available space, incorporating a double vanity and a separate shower area.
  • Fixture Choices: High-quality fixtures and fittings were selected to enhance the sleek, contemporary aesthetic. The bathroom featured a mix of dark tiles and lighter accents, creating a balanced, soothing environment.

Addressing Constraints

To overcome the tight fit of the tub, we carefully adjusted the layout. The solution involved creative space management, ensuring that all desired features were included without compromising on usability.

Bringing it All Together

Integration with the Rest of the Home

The renovated kitchen and bathroom were designed to enhance the overall flow and feel of the Johnsons’ home. The open-plan kitchen now seamlessly connected with the living area, making it perfect for socializing and family activities. The bathroom became a private sanctuary, offering a tranquil retreat within the home.

The Final Touches

Every detail, from the custom cabinetry to the decorative hardware, was chosen with care. The final selections reflected the Johnsons’ lifestyle and personal preferences, resulting in spaces that were not only beautiful but also deeply personal.

Conclusion

Reflecting on the journey from concept to completion, the Johnson family couldn’t have been happier with their new spaces. The kitchen, now a functional and stylish hub, and the bathroom, a modern haven, perfectly suited their needs and tastes.

Cracking the Space Code: Unveiling the A St Concept Kitchen

Picture the scene: you’re standing in the kitchen of your dreams, the smell of fresh basil fills the air as you skillfully chop it on a cutting board. Your partner is carefully uncorking a bottle of vintage red wine, and your kids are gathered at the island, engrossed in their doodles. An idyllic setting, isn’t it? But what if your existing kitchen layout doesn’t offer you the luxury of this scene?

Welcome to the A St Concept Kitchen—a design born from meticulous planning aimed to maximize every square inch of available space, even when that space is limited. Let’s delve into the unique challenges and innovative solutions that characterize this unique concept.

Challenge #1: Sacrificing Island End Caps

Traditionally, end caps on a kitchen island provide that extra aesthetic touch, much like a pair of dazzling earrings in an already exquisite ensemble. In the A St Concept, this feature had to be eliminated in favor of optimizing space.

Solution: Island Extension

By opting out of end caps, we extended the island by an extra 10 inches towards the kitchen area. The result? Seating for five, without affecting the freedom to move around. It perfectly epitomizes the adage, “less is more.”

Challenge #2: Eliminating Lowered Countertop

The standard 30″ AFF (Above Finished Floor) lowered countertop is usually a go-to feature for many, particularly for those who enjoy baking or have younger members in the household. Due to the spatial constraints in the A St kitchen, this feature was untenable.

Solution: Variable Surface Heights

While a lowered countertop couldn’t make the cut, the design incorporates varying heights within the island to cater to both adults and children. Now, everyone in the family can actively participate in kitchen activities, thereby making the kitchen a more inclusive space.

Challenge #3: Space Just for One Cook

The A St Concept Kitchen is best described as an “intimate culinary workspace,” tailored to give a single cook complete control without unwanted interruptions or physical obstacles.

Solution: Integrated Living Space

The kitchen flows effortlessly into the adjoining living and dining spaces. This design not only maximizes the available area but also allows for social interaction, keeping the chef connected with the rest of the household. Open shelving and smart appliance positioning further ease the cooking process for a single chef.

Challenge #4: No Dedicated Wine Storage

For wine aficionados, the lack of a wine refrigerator might initially appear as a setback. But fret not, we’ve crafted an elegant solution.

Solution: The Sophisticated Wine Bar

The A St kitchen compensates for the absence of a wine refrigerator with a stylish wine bar. This compact corner not only offers storage but also displays your finest wine bottles, glasses, and even a decanter. Your wine collection becomes an integrated part of your home’s aesthetics.

Challenge #5: Restricted Overhead Storage

With limited space, overhead storage options may seem minimal, causing concerns about where to store your pots, pans, and kitchen gadgets.

Solution: Innovative Wall Hooks and Open Shelving

The A St Concept Kitchen adopts an ingenious solution with wall hooks and open shelving. This enables you to keep your most-used items within easy reach while adding a touch of style to your kitchen.

Conclusion: The Art of Spatial Ingenuity

The journey to create the A St Concept Kitchen has been nothing short of a lesson in embracing limitations as a means to inspire innovation. While you might have to sacrifice some traditional features, the end result is a design that challenges preconceived notions about what a kitchen can offer in a restricted space.

If you’re keen on transforming your kitchen into a space that’s more than just the sum of its square footage, let’s connect. Your journey to a kitchen that defies the norms begins here.

A Tale of Dual Transformations in Columbia Heights: Overcoming Spatial Challenges in a Historic Wardman Home for a Valued Repeat Client

Sophisticated Kitchen Design

Sophisticated Kitchen Design at 11th St NW, Washington DC: A Culinary Haven in the Heart of the Capital

Nestled in the heart of Columbia Heights, an enclave rich in history and culture, is a unique Wardman home. While generously spacious overall, with its sun-filled rooms, high ceilings, and vintage wood flooring, this residence posed a captivating design puzzle: a surprisingly small kitchen. We were thrilled to once again collaborate with our client—a single woman and her faithful canine companion—in tackling this and another transformative project within her home.

Revisiting a Satisfying Collaboration

This project marks our third endeavor with this remarkable homeowner. Our first project in 2016 involved a condo kitchen remodel, a journey you can explore here. Beyond the kitchen, we also recently had the pleasure of redesigning her bathroom in this new home, a transformation you can view here.

The Wardman Canvas: Grand Yet Restrained

Despite the home’s overall grandeur, the kitchen’s limited dimensions provided an exciting backdrop for our design ingenuity. The high ceilings offered an opportunity to explore vertical space, maximizing storage and aesthetic impact.

Smart Design for Limited Spaces

White cabinetry was strategically selected to give the illusion of expansiveness, elegantly contrasting with her cobalt blue cookware collection, echoing Columbia Heights’ vibrant atmosphere.

Materials: A Harmonious Symphony

With existing granite and stainless steel elements in the home, we sought to elevate the kitchen’s sophistication. We opted for Calacatta marble quartz countertops, merging seamlessly with existing elements and adding a touch of refined elegance.

Efficiency in Appliances: A Small Space Must-Have

Given the spatial constraints, efficiency was paramount. A paneled Sub-Zero French door refrigerator was chosen for its slender yet ample design, coupled with custom-designed corners for her beloved KitchenAid mixer and Nespresso machine.

Maximizing Layout: The Art of Spatial Flow

In such a restricted kitchen, every inch counts. The final layout centered around an island with built-in ovens and a microwave, optimizing workspaces and maintaining the open flow essential for both everyday living and social gatherings.

Anticipation Builds for the Grand Reveal

As the big reveal approaches, we’re thrilled to showcase not just a kitchen remodel but a comprehensive lifestyle solution. The outcome promises to be a home transformation that’s as functional and elegant as it is personalized, catering perfectly to the needs of its owner and her four-legged companion.

Stay tuned for the grand reveal, where you’ll see firsthand how we’ve overcome space constraints to craft a kitchen that’s every bit as charming, functional, and inviting as the extraordinary woman who inspired it.

Masterpiece of Modern Kitchen Remodel: A Journey from Concept to Reality

Embarking on a modern kitchen remodel is like charting a transformative journey through a myriad of design possibilities. The choice spectrum ranges from vintage charm to contemporary minimalism, vibrant hues to calming neutral tones, conventional layouts to innovative open-concept spaces. Every detail comes together to shape a unique culinary masterpiece.

At the core of any successful kitchen redesign lies an understanding of the homeowner’s unique lifestyle. Detailed initial surveys reveal not just cooking habits and entertainment styles, but also expectations and aspirations for an ideal kitchen.

A recent transformation brought an outdated, cramped kitchen into the realm of modern elegance. The design was inspired by the homeowners’ love for international cuisines, a penchant for sleek minimalist style, and a passion for efficient organizational systems.

Here are some key design elements:

Quartz Countertops and Backsplash

The selection of a luxurious white and grey quartz surface, seamlessly paired with modern stainless appliances, set the tone for a refined and high-end aesthetic.

Built-In Recycling Center

To maximize functionality and maintain sleek design, a built-in recycling cabinet replaced the cumbersome floor bins.  The cabinet includes a 2-bin trash and recycle cabinet with an electric servo-drive and a two-tier wood cutlery tray.

Innovative Storage Solutions

Beyond just cabinets and drawers, the design features a variety of cabinet accessories. An asymmetrical lazy Susan, a spice pull-out, a base corner swing out, a pull-out pantry, a tray divider cabinet and a tall cabinet adorned with modern glass doors. These details not only ensure a dedicated space for every kitchen gadget and piece of bakeware but elevate the overall design.

Top-of-the-Line Appliances

Completing the modern kitchen remodel are premium appliances, featuring a professional-grade rangetop and a whisper-quiet Bosch dishwasher.

This modern kitchen remodel goes beyond creating an aesthetically pleasing space; it designs an efficient, functional area that embodies the homeowners’ lifestyle. From concept to the breathtaking final result, the project represents a truly modern kitchen that inspires both envy and admiration.

As we prepare for the grand unveiling, detailed floor plans, elevations, and renderings will be featured on this page, offering an in-depth look into the transformation process. So, stay tuned as we continue to transform dreams into realities, creating modern kitchens that serve not just as spaces for cooking, but as stages for life’s greatest celebrations.

Unraveling the Puzzle of Andrea and Andrew’s New Kitchen: A Perfect Blend of Functionality and Design

Unraveling the Puzzle of Andrea and Andrew’s New Kitchen: A Perfect Blend of Functionality and Design

If there’s anything that could be likened to a glorious puzzle, it would be designing an efficient, stylish, and functional kitchen for a client’s project. There’s something deeply satisfying about taking a client’s desires and challenges, shuffling and reshaping them until a complete, coherent picture comes to life. This is the story of Andrea and Andrew’s perfect kitchen.

As I reveal the pieces and how they came together, I’d like you to imagine how this new layout could be the solution Andrea and Andrew were looking for.

Let's Talk About Access

One of the primary concerns in Andrea and Andrew’s existing kitchen was the lack of an easily accessible doorway. However, the redesigned cleverly overcomes this. We’ve managed to construct a design that allows easy access without compromising the kitchen’s functionality or aesthetic.

Size Doesn't Always Matter

Let’s be honest, when you hear “full-sized appliances in a compact kitchen,” you might imagine a space that feels more like a closet than a kitchen. But, let me assure you, this isn’t the case with Andrea and Andrew’s new kitchen. By opting for the compact yet efficient Bosch 24″ cooktop and oven, we’ve managed to maintain full functionality while also creating additional storage space. It’s a win-win!

Storage Galore

When it comes to kitchen design, never underestimate the power of storage. The challenge is even greater in compact kitchens, where every inch counts. In this design, we’ve included functional sized drawers, providing ample space for kitchen utensils and other essentials.

Now, let’s talk about the blind corner cabinet which doubles as a sink base. Some may consider it a tad awkward, but, this is where creativity comes into play. By incorporating a functional sink like this model from Kohler, we’ve ensured that not an inch of space is wasted. And with an offset sink drain, we might even create more accessible storage.

But, that’s not all. For additional storage, we’ve increased the depth of the wall blind cabinet to the left of the refrigerator to 18″ and also utilized the cabinet above the refrigerator.

Microwave Relocation: A Bold Move?

Now, some of you might be thinking: a microwave in the dining room? However, rest assured, this relocation next to the table not only frees up more space in the kitchen but also introduces a novel convenience for serving hot food right at the table.

So, here we are! A perfectly designed kitchen that meets most of Andrea and Andrew’s needs. It’s compact yet not claustrophobic, functional, and convenient.

I eagerly look forward to hearing your thoughts on this design. After all, every glorious puzzle deserves a fresh pair of eyes to appreciate the intricacies and the beauty hidden within.

Thank you for journeying with me through this design revelation. Here’s to many more glorious puzzles, solved together, in the realm of kitchen designs!

Exquisite Kitchen Design at Alexandria: Elevate Your Home with Unparalleled Style

Exquisite Kitchen Design at Alexandria: Elevate Your Home with Unparalleled Style

Timeless Kitchen Design for Historic Home Addition

We are thrilled to reveal the completed design for the kitchen renovation project we created for Tom and Susan in their renovated historic home. This wonderful couple worked with an architect on plans for a major addition to their 1920s colonial, then brought us on board to design the ideal kitchen within the expanded footprint.

Blending Vintage Charm and Modern Function

Susan loves clean, contemporary styles while Tom prefers traditional warmth and character. To blend these aesthetics beautifully, we designed the kitchen with flush inset custom cabinets from Adelphi Kitchens in a warm white paint, paired with the company’s Legacy door style for a classic shaker look. The cabinets feature slab drawers for a touch of modern flair. Brushed brass hardware adds an updated, transitional touch.

The kitchen will feature an exotic natural marble stone for the counters and backsplash, not yet selected, that will add durability and timeless beauty. Stainless appliances integrate seamlessly into the design. Abundant windows connect the kitchen to the outdoors and fill the space with natural light.

Storage and Accessories for an Active Kitchen

Tom and Susan love to cook, bake and entertain. To maximize storage and functionality, we incorporated pull-outs like a spice rack, cookie sheet dividers, tilt-out tray for sponges, and a two-tier cutlery organizer. A mixer lift and appliance garage keep countertops clutter-free. Glass door upper cabinets and wine racks provide attractive display options.

Perfectly Tailored Layout

With an island for casual dining and homework, beverage station, and outdoor grill access, the kitchen is tailored to Tom, Susan and their daughter’s lifestyle. There’s ample space for cooking together along with zones for multitasking.

We thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with Tom and Susan to create their ideal kitchen, seamlessly blending old and new elements into a timeless, functional gathering space for their family to enjoy for years to come.

Capitol Hill Kitchen & Bath Project: A Design That Combines Functionality and Personal Touches

Capitol Hill Kitchen & Bath Project: A Design That Combines Functionality and Personal Touches

Welcome to another exciting kitchen and bath project!  Kat Reynolds, CKBD recently collaborated with the homeowners of a Capitol Hill row house to create a stunning kitchen that not only meets their unique requirements but also reflects their personal taste. In this blog post, we’ll take you through the various aspects of this challenging yet fulfilling project, showcasing our expertise in custom kitchen design and renovation.

Features:

  • Custom Cabinetry
    • Make: Dura Supreme
    • Line: Bria
    • Door Style: Hudson
    • Species & Finish:
      • Base Cabinet: Paintable Gale Force
      • Wall Cabinet: Paintable White
    • Construction: Plywood case with natural maple veneer interior, Full – Overlay, dovetail drawers
    • Soft close doors and drawers
  • Countertop: Silestone Charcoal Soapstone
  • Hardware: Top Knobs
  • Appliances & Furniture: (provided by client)

Kitchen Layout and Design:

We wanted the kitchen to be the focal point as one enters the home. To achieve this, we designed the space so that the ducting is concealed within the cabinetry components, creating a sleek and visually appealing look. The homeowners were considering black stone or concrete countertops, but due to concerns about staining, chipping, and scratching, we suggested Silestone charcoal soapstone. This material offers a matte surface that doesn’t show dust and fingerprints like shiny black granite, making it a practical and stylish choice for their kitchen renovation.

Mudroom Solutions:

One of the primary challenges we faced was designing a mudroom with a limited depth of only 16-7/8 inches. Since this did not allow for coat hangers, we came up with an alternative solution: adding more hanging hooks and a base cabinet. This not only provided space for their wine glasses but also served as a convenient drop zone, particularly when they have barbecues, making the most of the available space in their Capitol Hill home.

Bathrooms:

When it comes to small bathroom vanities, finding something that doesn’t look “off-the-shelf” can be a challenge. We offered the Capitol Hill homeowners an outside-the-box solution that will make their bathroom vanity stand out, showcasing our expertise in crafting unique and stylish bathroom designs.

Personal Touches:

To help the Capitol Hill homeowners emotionally connect to their new kitchen, we incorporated some of their personal items into the design. We also added adjustable shelves in the tall cabinets, so they can customize their storage and broom cabinet preferences, providing a personalized and functional space for them to enjoy.

Conclusion:

The Capitol Hill kitchen project has been one of our most challenging and rewarding puzzles to date. We hope they’ll be as thrilled with the design as we are. We look forward to receiving their feedback and making any necessary adjustments to create the kitchen of their dreams.

Stay tuned for more updates on this project, and don’t forget to visit our website for more inspiring kitchen and bath designs from Bath Plus Kitchen!
